I was friends with Rays daughter, Diane. I was a curious kid and did a lot of aggravating things. I clearly remember the time I was staying overnight with Diane. Margie was making homemade pizza (which I still remember was being the best) and standing near the kitchen just behind a low bar of some sort. Unfortunately, on the bar was both a pair of scissors and a metal tape measure. I had really never seen a metal tape so I wondered how strong it was so of course I cut the end off and dropped it as it recoiled into itself. Ray was nearby and this wasn't the first thing such as this. I knew him to be direct and he looked at me and took a big breath, with all the softness he was capable of finding he quietly told me to please not touch his work things as they were expensive to replace. It was very kind and it struck me just how important it was to him because he was so careful not to offend me. I will never forget that moment. All his family offered me many kind and happy moments.

I just found this today. I'm glad to see he lived a long life. I was friends with Diane and my family was friends with all the family in the 1960's. Sorry for the family's loss.

Margie,Johnny & Mark-my heart goes out to you all for this great loss. I only found out tonight otherwise I would have been there today. Ray was a wonderful man and I know you will miss him dearly but I'm sure mama & Millie were there to greet him when he walked thru the pearly gates on Tuesday, which means he is in great hands. My prayers are with you during this time.

I speak for everyone one at Republic, that Ray was very special to us and his legacy is ingrained in Republic's culture. Listed in FACTS; his occupation is Pipe Fitter; what an understatement! "Teacher" is more accurate. Ray always wanted the work to be correct and he generously shared his wisdom with myself, Walter, Hank, Morris, Brian, JD, Jeff and others. He kept me out of so much trouble i can't begin to describe all the events. Ray was honest, straight forward and loved difficult challenges. Most importantly he showed kindness and generousity that we sometimes don't see in the business world. Ray always set the example, took the high road and was a great mentor to us all. Ray's legacy will continue to guided me in my personal and business life along with everyone at Republic. We will miss him, but i'm so grateful he has been part of my life. Thank you Ray.
