Obituary of Lillie Monroe

Lillie Byrum Monroe Lillie Monroe, 88, of Charlotte passed away at her home on Friday, October 8, 2010. Lillie was born on April 5, 1922 in Charlotte, daughter of the late Jessie Nerenzie Byrum and Ruth Griffin Byrum. She graduated from Berryhill High School Class of 1941, was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class, Woodlawn Senior Citizens, Southside Senior Citizens, Addie Chapman Circle, Tuesday Morning Sewing Club and was active at the Steele Creek Site at Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church. She worked with Avondale Pharmacy, Benson?s Drugs, Carolina Pad & Paper, and Woodlawn Baptist Church Day Care. She and her husband served 22 years in the Air Force having lived in Hawaii, Texas, Mississippi, Kansas, South Dakota, New Mexico, and Michigan. She and her husband were the first couple to be married at Morris Field Base Chapel in Charlotte. Survivors include her son, Tony Monroe and his wife, Cindy, daughter, Sheri Edgeworth and husband, Ken all of Charlotte, daughter, Donna Monroe Carignan and her husband, Leigh of Ankara, Turkey; brother, Jones Byrum and wife Bobbie, and sister, Mary Sadler; three grandchildren, Van Edgeworth and Kathryn Monroe, both of Charlotte, and Dave Stauffer of Bologna, Italy. Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Monroe, Jr. and granddaughter Toni Lynn Edgeworth. The family would like to express a special thank you to their friend, Lani Cannon. A visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, October 10, 2010 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington. A private memorial services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Rd. Charlotte, NC 28217.
