Obituary of Elisabeth Hunter

Elisabeth Jones Hunter (Liz) Elisabeth Jones Hunter, age 76, of Charlotte NC died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 following a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Asheville, NC on February 5, 1934 to Roy Edward and Lillian Lindler Jones. She attended Lee Edwards High School, class of 1952, and went on to graduate from Meredith College in 1956. Liz married Charles Richard (Chick) Hunter Jr., who she first met in seventh grade in 1956. She was a dedicated mom raising two sons, Chip and Roy. Liz was Co-Chairman of the Asheville Antiques Fair for over 20 years. She was a long-time faithful member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. An avid bridge player, Liz enjoyed the friendships made over the years in several bridge clubs. She was also a voracious reader and member of a number of book clubs. Her real passion however was family. She never missed even one of her sons' ballgames or golf tournaments. She was front row for most of her four grandchildren's events from Little League to school plays, swim meets to graduations. Her favorite moments were family dinners where everyone was present and she was doing most of the work; a glass of wine and one extra baked potato in the oven. Liz is survived by her husband of 54 years Charles Richard Hunter Jr.; her son Charles Richard Hunter III, his wife Minda, their children Carter Elisabeth Hunter, Jacob Charles Hunter; her son Roy Edward Hunter and his children, Jordan Bailey Hunter, Annese Lindler Hunter. A special thanks goes to the staff at the Blumenthal Cancer Center who helped Liz immeasurably in her five years as a patient. Also, warm heartfelt thanks to those amazing people who comforted Liz for these last few weeks. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the home, 1900 Queens Rd. West. A memorial service will be 11 AM Friday morning, October 22nd, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place.
