Obituary of Margaret Black

Margaret Lee Brown Black Mrs. Black, 100, of Charlotte died at her residence on Friday, November 19, 2010. She was born in Mecklenburg County, NC in the Long Creek Community, April 30, 1910 daughter of the late Thomas and Pearl Todd Brown. Margaret was a 1929 graduate of Long Creek High School and a member of Allen Street Baptist Church. She was employed with Belk in the 1930?s as a hosiery buyer. Mrs. Black helped organize citywide campaigns for the March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis and the American Heart Fund. She loved the Atlanta Braves, ACC Basketball, NASCAR and fishing. Margaret also enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting and sewing. The most important was caring for her family. In addition to her parents Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband of sixty three years, Floyd Black in 1992 and also her sons, Floyd Jackson Black and Robert Rush Black; brother, Kenneth Boyd Brown and sister, Virginia Irene Hipp. Survivors include her sons, Tom Black and wife, Erika of Stalling, NC; daughters, Jenny Black Porter and Debbie Black Chapple and husband, Murray all of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jacqueline Robinson and husband, Scott, Wes Black all of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie Finley and husband, David of Weddington, NC, Tim Black of Stalling, NC, Ashley Moore and wife, Moe and Blaine Chapple all of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Kiah Black, Sedona and Ayla Finley, Wyatt, Heston and Dodge Moore. Also surviving is her nephew Jerry Hipp and wife, JoAnn and her bird, Huey. The family would like to thank her hospice nurses Ruth Wiehn and Glaucia Smith. Also the family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204 and requests that memorials be made to them. Graveside service for Mrs. Black will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 21, 2010, in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Funeral service Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
