Obituary of Dorothy Gibson

Mrs. Gibson, 82, of Charlotte, NC died Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born December 17, 1927 in Lancaster, SC, daughter of the late William and Charlotte Lindsay. She graduated from Winthrop University, with a B.A. in Social Work. During 40 years of service with Mecklenburg County, Dorothy was a specialist for the mentally retarded, developing neighbourhood based group homes for the children and their families. In 1976, she was nominated Outstanding Employee of the Year. Time away from work found her travelling to Europe, Mexico, and significant historical destinations in the United States. Dorothy enjoyed watching ?old? movies and with a love for books, she became a volunteer with the library at Aldersgate. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson is predeceased by her husband, Graham C. Gibson, Jr. She is survived by daughter, Lindsay G. LeMoyne and her husband Joe of York, SC; sons Graham C. Gibson, III of Marshville, NC and William L. Gibson of Monroe, NC; two grandsons, Dennis and Tracy LeMoyne; two granddaughters, Laura G. Buckles and Katherine Gibson; and great-granddaughters, Brianna and Peyton Buckles. The family will receive friends Thursday evening December 2, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The funeral service will be Friday morning December 3, 2010, at 11:00AM, in the chapel at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service.
