Obituary of Martha Holder

Martha Sue Simmons Holder Mrs. Holder, 94, of Charlotte, NC, died on December 4, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on June 29, 1916 in Charlotte, NC, daughter of the late John and Phoebe Tilley Simmons. Mrs. Holder graduated from Central High School, attended Queens College and was a sixty year member of Myers Park United Methodist Church. Sue was a long-time volunteer with the Charity League and Presbyterian Hospital. She also served as the administrative secretary for the Dilworth Rotary Club where she was recognized for twenty-one outstanding years of service. Sue had a wonderful sense of humor and was an eternal optimist. Being a quintessential homemaker and incredible mother and wife, Sue was truly a woman of grace. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lofford Holder, Jr.; daughters, Gaile Hildreth and Linda Holder; and her brother, J. E. Simmons. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Handford and her husband, Rick of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Bo South and his wife, Danielle of Charlotte, NC, Leigh Howell and her husband, Kevin of Charlotte, NC, Robert Hildreth and his wife, Laura of Charlotte, NC, Bo Hildreth of Charlotte, NC, and Gracie Staton Rhoads and her husband, David of San Diego, CA, and Will Staton of New York, NY; and great-grandchildren, Jason, Parker, and Chase. A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 with Reverend Bill Roth officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall at the church following the service. Memorials may be sent to the Children?s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, P.O.
