Obituary of William Smith

William S. Smith, Jr. ?Bill? Mr. Smith, of Charlotte, died December 4, 2010 from cardiac arrest. Bill was born in New York and raised in New Jersey by his loving parents, the late William and Irene Smith. He served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam War. After his service he worked on the floor of The New York Stock Exchange. In 1984 he moved to Georgia where he was employed by Johnson, Lane, Space, Smith in Atlanta. In 1991 he joined the firm Wedge Capital Management, LLP in Charlotte as their Senior Equities Trader. Bill loved being with his family and friends; sharing a good meal, beer and a good laugh. Nothing was better then Sunday football with his two sons. He was known for his quick wit, profound sense of humor and his love of trains. He was a proud man, a great husband, father and loyal friend. Bill is survived by his devoted and loving wife of thirty six years, Lisa; his two incredible sons and best friends, Jason and William (Billy); his father-in-law Theo. Von Gerichten, that knew him as a son; Joanne and Gerry Matthews, William and Linda Hefti, Aunt Blanche Sterling; and cousins, Bonnie and Bill Sterling; his nieces and nephews and many great friends. In his passing he gave the gift of life. We are all better people for knowing him. May his soul rest in peace. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday for two hours prior to the service.
