Obituary of Oswald Philmon

Oswald McCamey Philmon ?Mac? Mr. Philmon, 85, of Charlotte, NC died Sunday, December 5, 2010, in the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. A Charlotte native, Mr. Philmon was born September 1, 1925 son of the late Martin and Lillie Philmon. Mr. Philmon was a graduate of Tech High School and attended NC State University. He was a WW II veteran of the US Navy, where he served as a gunners mate and was retired from the Charlotte Fire Department with the rank of Captain. Mac was a member of American Legion Post #262 and theatre, Stage Local Union # 322. Mr Philmon was a member of University City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. In addition to his parents Mr. Philmon was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sara Wentz Philmon; son, Timothy Philmon and five brothers and sisters. Survivors include his sons, Michael Philmon and wife, Sharon of Charlotte, NC and Patrick Philmon and wife, Linda of Keller, TX; sister, Juanita Watson of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Lynne Philmon; granddaughters, Christie Philmon Hughes, Leah Philmon Whitmire, Shannah Burnette and Meghan Philmon; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Noah Hughes, MacKynzie and Riley Burnette and Austin and Hanna Day Whitmire. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Noon, Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at University City United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
