Obituary of Ruth Williams

Ruth Fletcher Williams Mrs. Williams, 89 of Charlotte, NC, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center. Ruth was born July 13, 1921, in Mecklenburg, County daughter of the late Turner and Lula Cobb Fletcher. Mrs. Williams was a member of Whiting Ave. Baptist Church. She enjoyed tennis and baseball and especially the Atlanta Braves. In her younger years she played softball and was on the All-star softball team. Mrs. Williams was a sweet, loving and giving person and expected nothing in return. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. In addition to her parents Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie. Survivors include her sons, Maxie Williams and wife, Ruby and Ted Williams all of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Joan Thompson and husband, Robert of Indian Trail, NC; sister, Mary Lou Purser of Stallings, NC; grandchildren, Brian, Kristie, Rachael, Ashley and Shannon; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening December 13, 2010 from 7 to 8:30 PM.
