Obituary of Helen Gekas

Helen Lados Gekas Mrs. Gekas, 73, died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC. Mrs. Gekas was born in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of the late Peter and Despina Lados. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Speros Pete Gekas and a sister, Zaharo ?Sari? Lados. Helen was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a life-long member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society where she served on the board. Helen was an active member of the Daughters of Penelope in Toledo, Ohio and Charlotte. She worked for 19 years at Holy Trinity Cathedral as the office manager. She formerly worked at Theiss Realty and the George Miller Law Firm. Mrs. Gekas is survived by a sister-in-law, Becky Lomax of Charlotte, NC and a brother-in-law, Harry Gekas and his wife, Nancy of Mooresville, NC; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Trisagion service for Mrs. Gekas will be noon Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed immediately by the funeral service with the Rev. Michael Varvarelis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Philoptochos Society, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.
