Obituary of John Parker

John Huitt Parker Mr. Parker, 84, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Saturday morning, December 25, 2010 after an extended illness. Born December 7, 1926, in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas Kindred Parker and Gerdie Huitt Parker. Mr. Parker graduated from Harding High School in Charlotte and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Seaman 1st Class in Aviation Ordinance, serving on the USS Attu CVE102. He was retired from a local wholesale distributor after forty years. Mr. Parker received the Cross of Military Service and the Military Order of Stars and Bars from the United Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Parker; and sisters, Claudine Parker and Grace Baker. Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Beaty Parker; son, John Keith Parker, both of Charlotte; daughter, Diane Parker Davis and her husband, Robert T. Davis, of Columbia, SC; grandson, Ashton T. Davis, of Columbia, SC; brothers, Charles and Benjamin Parker of Monroe, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the mausoleum at Sharon Memorial Park with Pastor Joseph McCray Holmes, officiating. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends following the service for thirty minutes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
