Obituary of George McGaha

George V. McGaha Mr. McGaha, 84, of Charlotte, NC, died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Brighton Gardens. He was born October 25, 1926 in Clifton, SC, son of the late Theodore R. and Dorothy Harvey McGaha. George served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and later in the US Naval Reserves. He graduated from Clemson College in 1954 with a BSME degree. Mr. McGaha retired in 1990 from Siemens-Pelton and Crane Company as a Project Development Manager. Mr. McGaha was an active member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church since 1954. He was a Life Deacon, Brotherhood Director, member of the Long Range Planning Committee, member of the Personnel Committee and the Sunday School Department Director along with many other activities and committees at the church. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the N.C. Baptist Foundation. Mr. McGaha was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, the Carolina Investment Club, Mustang Club of America, and the Mecklenburg Beekeepers Association. He enjoyed traveling, antique cars, antique clocks and photography. Mr. McGaha was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Marion Walker McGaha, he is survived by their three children, Marsha McGaha Sherrill and her husband, Bo, Don McGaha and his wife, Dianne, and Mitzi McGaha Mayhew and her husband, Chris; two granddaughters, Selwyn and Sarah Sherrill; three sisters, Joyce McGaha and Lois McGaha of Spartanburg, SC and Mildred Comer of San Antonio, FL. Funeral services for Mr. McGaha will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Bobby Morrow and the Reverend Stan Heiser officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM on Thursday in the church sanctuary. The deacons of the church will be honorary pallbearers.
