Obituary of Conrad Farrar

Conrad H. Farrar Jr. C.H. Farrar, 89, of Charlotte, NC, slipped away peacefully at his residence into the arms of his Lord and Savior on January 12, 2011. He was born on November 17, 1921 in Charlotte, son of the late Conrad H., Sr. and Annie Elmira Harkey Farrar. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II. Mr. Farrar was in the wave of landings in Okinowa and Iwojima and witnessed the United States flag being raised on Iwojima. He received a Presidential Citation for his service. Mr. Farrar was a member and past Commander of V.F.W. Post 1160 and a fifty year member of the Shrine and Masonic order. Following his Naval service, Mr. Farrar owned and operated C.H. Farrar Superette from 1946 until 1970. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lillie Stroud Farrar. Mr. Farrar is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Del Rossi and her husband, Frank of Salt Lake City, UT; his son, Ronnie Farrar and his wife, Carol of Harrisburg, NC; granddaughter, Tasha Trull and husband Chris and their children Allison and Nathan of Harrisburg, NC; granddaughter, Michelle Sullivan and husband Brian of Concord, NC. The family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead for their loving care. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 15, 2010 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203 with Reverend Michael L. Harris, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 until the service. Memorials may be made to Kilgo United Methodist Church 2101 Belvedere Ave. Charlotte, NC 28205.
