Obituary of Novalee Williams

Lee Smith Williams Mrs. Lee Smith Williams of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Memphis, TN, died January 31, 2011. She was born on June 11, 1924 in Monette, Arkansas, daughter of the late Mary Martha Blevins Smith, and Robert Lee Smith, Sr. She was educated in Jonesboro, AR schools, Bartlett, TN High School and the University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss she was active in school politics, Phi Mu Sorority officer and was a member of the Ole Miss Marching Band. In Memphis, Mrs. Williams was co-founder of Subsidium, the auxiliary supporting the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf. For this organization, she held many positions, Past President, publicity and fund raising chair, and now holds an honorary membership. Most recently the school celebrated it?s 50th anniversary and she was presented a plaque honouring her as one of the Heroes for Hearing. Also in Memphis, she held memberships in the Symphony League, Brooks Art Gallery, The Dixon Art Gallery, English Speaking Union, and the Woman?s Exchange. She was also a member of Calvary Episcopal Church. Professionally, Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and Interior Designer. In Charlotte, Mrs. Williams was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Surviving are her twin sons, Reverend Robert Lee Williams of Elizabeth, WV, and Oscar Lane Williams, also of Elizabeth, WV; daughter, Jane Williamson Novak, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Katherine Jane Williamson of Charlotte, NC and Oscar Lane ?Bo? Williams, of Hammond, IN; and three great-grandsons, Amadeo, Lane and Isaiah, all of the Chicago area; and her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Willis Meadows of Shreveport, LA. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Christ Church, 1412 Providence Rd. Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends in the gathering room at the church following the service.
