Obituary of Evelyn Keener

Evelyn K. Keener Mrs. Keener, 93 of Charleston, WV died unexpectedly in Charlotte, NC on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. Evelyn was born in Ward, WV, August 13, 1917. She was a member of South Ruffner Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 88 where she was a Past Worthy Matron and was the grand representative to Rhode Island. Mrs. Keener was a Past President of St. Albans American Legion Post # 73 and was active in Post # 20 in Charleston. Evelyn also served in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She served as the Rhododendron Girls State eighth district representative for 10 years and was a member of the International Quota Club of Charleston. Evelyn was also a member of The Red Hat Society and the International Travel Club of Charleston. Evelyn worked in the Tax Dept of the Kanawha County Sheriff?s Department and retired from the West Virginia Workers Compensation Division in 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland F. Keener. Surviving are her daughter, Lenora Connell Lawrence and husband, Bob of Charleston; grandson, Brion Taylor of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Cynthia Taylor of Charlotte, NC; sister, Addie Mae Fannin of Morehead, KY; nieces, Billie Jean Blair and husband, John of East Bank and Judith Ann Thompson and Lucindia Trent both of Morehead, KY. Also surviving are two great nieces and a great nephew, two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew. Also surviving are her extended family Parker and Olivia A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Charleston Scottish Rite Temple, 406 Capital St., Charleston WV 25301 with the Reverend David Hancock officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.
