Obituary of Fred Dickinson

Fred Edward Dickinson Mr. Dickinson, 86, of Charlotte, NC died on February 22, 2011 at University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Britthaven of Charlotte.) He was born on October 23, 1924 in Asheville, NC, son of the late Henry C. and Vernie Adams Dickinson. Mr. Dickinson served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1943 until 1946 as an airplane mechanic, stationed in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas, reaching the rank of Sergeant in the 810th Army Air Force Unit. He then went to work for Southern Railway then Norfolk Southern Railway for many years retiring as Supervisor of Freight Claims and Freight Claims Prevention. Mr. Dickinson was a longtime member of Derita Baptist Church where he delivered sermon tapes to shut-in members and he would visit with the sick and elderly members of the church. He will be remembered for his smile and sincere cheerful greetings even as his physical health was declining. Mr. Dickinson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Clark Dickinson; his two daughters, Jan Dickinson Hunsucker and her husband, Larry, of Concord, NC and Anita Dickinson Blanchett and her husband, Clyde, of York, SC; three grandchildren, Chris Hunsucker of Stanfield, NC, Emily Hunsucker Smith of Albemarle, NC and Sam DeWitt of Cornelius, NC; and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Britthaven of Charlotte for their loving care over the last ten years. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 20203
