Obituary of Stanley Atma

Stanley James Atma Mr. Atma, 81, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Olive Hill Atma and Stanley John Atma. Mr. Atma graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. Mr. Atma began his career with B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company in 1954. He was transferred to Charlotte in 1969 and would ultimately retire from the company in 1992. He enjoyed Litchfield Beach, playing golf, bowling and the family horse, Raven. He also enjoyed his family and their many friends. Mr. Atma is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pegi Atma; daughters, Lee Atma Tate, Cindy Atma Gwin and Dana Atma; four grandchildren, Ryan Gwin, Jenna Gwin, Michael Tate and Rick Tate; and sisters, Doris Schmitt, Nancy Brooks and Connie Chapman. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in the Cardiac Care Unit and the Critical Care Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
