Obituary of Melissa Sawyer

Melissa Goetchius Sawyer Ms. Sawyer, 50, of Charlotte, NC, peacefully passed away March 03, 2011 at CMC Main, after a short, gruelling battle with cancer. She was born on March 30, 1960 in Beacon, NY, the daughter of Joan and Ronald Goetchius. Missy was a graduate of Queens University with a Masters degree in Creative Writing. She was a published poet, artist, avid gardener, loving mother and grandmother. She had a distinctive love for unique people, eclectic things and all kinds of animals, especially strays. Often, she could be found engrossed in her love for playing Yahtzee, working a jigsaw puzzle or doing a crossword puzzle. Missy packed a lot of life into a short amount of time and made an indelible mark upon any person she met. Not only was she one of a kind, she was out of our league. She was the best friend you could have ever asked for and we are fortunate to have had her in our lives. In addition to her parents, survivors include: her life partner, Lisa Lincicome; daughters, Sydney Davis and her husband Tommy; Alex Wilkins and her husband Keith; their father Bryan Sawyer; brothers, Ronald, Chris and Tim Goetchius; granddaughters McKenzie and Madilyn Wilkins. A celebration of her life will be held 6:00 pm Wednesday, March 09, 2011, in the chapel at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. prior to the service.
