Obituary of Charles Joy

Mr. Charles Moore Joy passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Mecklenburg County on January 15, 1925, Mr. Joy was the son of the late Oscar Franklin Joy, Sr. and Iva Roseman Joy. Mr. Joy was a World War II veteran and a retired, career employee of BellSouth. He was a member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church where he previously served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a loving husband, father and caring friend. In addition to his parents, Mr. Joy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Watson Joy; brothers William Torrance Joy, Lloyd Bayne Joy, James Franklin Joy, Jean Melvin Joy, Oscar Franklin Joy, Jr., Billy Allen Joy and sisters, Esther May Joy Midgett, Laura Joy Outz, Helen Joy Reames, and Ruth Joy Weaver. Mr. Joy is survived by his sons and their wives Charles D. Joy (Mary) and Anthony W. Joy (Carrilea); grandchildren, Lauren Joy, David Joy and Joanne Rohan and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rohan, Timothy Rohan, III and Catherine Rohan, sister Doris Sisk and brother Donald Joy. Additionally, Mr. Joy is survived by his devoted friend, Ruby W. Potts. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Dr. Luke H. Maybry officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Sharon Towers and Carolinas Medical Center-STICU. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28273-6501.
