Ann Correll

Obituary of Ann Correll

Ann Garey Correll Mrs. Correll, 57, of Charlotte, NC, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and friend, passed away on April 30, 2011, following a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Ann was born on October 30, 1953, in Wilmington, DE, and spent her childhood in Florence, SC. A 1972 graduate of McClenaghan High School, where she was voted ?Most Artistic? by her classmates, Ann graduated from Furman University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Arts. Following college, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Boyd ?B.C.? Correll in 1979, and the two embarked together on a two year Peace Corps assignment in Ibajay Aklan, in the central Phillipines. After returning to the U.S., Ann and B.C. resided in Florence, where there first son, Alex, was born in 1982, before moving to Charlotte in 1984. Their second son, Will, was born in 1988. Always friendly to all, Ann was a constant supporter of her family and friends. She led the Cotswold Chess Club, and volunteered countless hours of her time with Myers Park High School, Myers Park Trinity Little League, Christ Church, Knit One, Pray Two, and numerous other community organizations. Ann and B.C. were fixtures at the Virginia Military Institute, where Ann emphatically cheered on her sons and their friends in football and rugby. When not volunteering or on the road to VMI athletic events, Ann enjoyed spending time at Figure Eight Island and Wrightsville Beach?a perennial place of happy memories for her and her family. In addition to her kind spirit, Ann?s greatest gift was her artistic ability. Ann constantly used her talents for the benefit of others, whether for a one-of-a-kind birthday card, present, Halloween costume, or other gift or memento. With an endless supply of love, hope, and optimism, she also always saw the good in people and provided strong encouragement to everyone in her life. Ann will be enormously missed by everyone that had the opportunity to know her. Those that loved her strived to be better people because of her generosity and presence. Ann is survived by Boyd, her husband; her two sons, Alex and Will; her daughter-in-law, Katharine; her parents, Bob and Alice Lee Garey of Florence, SC; her brothers, Bobby, Ranny, and Billy Garey, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends. A memorial service for Ann will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 2 o?clock p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church located at 1412 Providence Road in Charlotte. A reception at the church will follow. The family will receive visitors at their home following the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC, or Myers Park Trinity Little League, 3400 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC.
