Obituary of Lula Demarest

Lula Caldwell Demarest Mrs. Demarest, 94, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Mecklenburg Healthcare Center. Born March 4, 1917, Mrs. Demarest was the daughter of the late Thomas Parks Caldwell, Sr. and Azalee Wilson Caldwell. A lifelong Charlottean, Mrs. Demarest was a graduate of Queens College and a retired teacher from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Mrs. Demarest was a charter member of Freedom Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church, the Joy Sunday School Class and a Day Circle member as well as being a faithful member of the choir. She is survived by her eleven nieces and nephews, Dr. Frank Caldwell, Jr. and wife Neala, Tommy Caldwell and wife Gloria, Dan Caldwell and wife Pam, Myron Caldwell and wife Dorothy, Harvey Correll, Wayne Caldwell and wife Libby, Larry Caldwell and wife Daphne, Gary Caldwell and wife Karen, Barbara Chapman and husband Bill, Marcia Gibson and husband Rondal, and Donna Calebro and husband Darrell; as well as great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Demarest was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Henry Demarest; brothers, Thomas Parks Caldwell, Jr., Yates Templeton Caldwell and Frank W. Caldwell, Sr.; sisters, Sarah C. Bartlett and Esther C. Correll; and a nephew, Jack H. Correll, Jr. The family would like to thank everyone who helped take care of Mrs. Demarest at Mecklenburg Healthcare Center and to her friend and roommate, Gracie Allen. Funeral service for Mrs. Demarest will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Freedom Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Gene Craven officiating and assisted by the Reverend Dewey Murphy. Nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Elders and Deacon of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
