Obituary of Susan Herzog

SUSAN GLADYS HERZOG Susan Gladys Herzog, 67, of Matthews, NC died peacefully with her children at her side on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center Main. Susan was born January 17, 1944 in Berwyn, IL, one of three children of the late William and Violet Bollnow Herzog. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Elijah Christopher Hagen. Susan grew up in Racine, WI and received her BA from Northwestern University. After starting a family, she went back to school to receive her M.L.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and forged a rich and rewarding career working in public libraries in Manitowoc, WI, Topeka, KS, Skokie, IL, and Charlotte, NC. Susan was best known for her great love of books and beagles. Susan is survived by her daughter, Ann Hagen and husband Robert Gibson of Richfield, MN; son William Hagen and wife Michel of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Lucy Gibson; brother William Herzog and wife Wendy of Kirkland, WA; brother Tom Herzog and wife Katie of Carrabelle, FL; and life-long friend, Lynn Dillner of Charlotte, NC. The greatest and most enriching experience of her life was her conversion to Reform Judaism. The family would like to share their great appreciation and gratitude to the wonderful members of Temple Beth-El who have showered Susan with love and friendship. A celebration of Susan?s life will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 12:30pm at Temple Beth-El in Shalom Park in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Interfaith Outreach Fund at Temple Beth El or to the charity of the donor?s choice.
