Obituary of Ruth May

Ruth Waters Palmer May Mrs. May, 94, of Charlotte died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center. Ruth was born September 2, 1916, in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Bosley Palmer. She graduated from Bel Air High School in Bel Air, MD and attended the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. May was a nurse and worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Ruth enjoyed writing poetry and music and was published in both. She was a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church for 60 years. Mrs. May had a deep faith in her Lord and Savior and loved her church. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and confidant, Ruth will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Philip Bessom May, Sr. in 1997 and two brothers. Survivors include her sons, Palmer Mackall May of Charlotte, NC and Dr. Philip B. May, Jr. MD and wife, Robin of Washington, NJ and numerous grandchildren. Funeral service for Mrs. May will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. Interment will be in St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery in Monkton, MD. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.
