My heart goes out to the family and friends of Mrs. Gupton. She had a great impact in the lives of a great deal of people. As you find comfort in the memories you have shared please know that one day soon death will be no more. - Revelation 21:4

Dearest Gupton Family,
Words will never be able to describe what Mrs. Gupton meant to me. She was such a bright light and encourager to me as I learned through exploratory surgery that I had acute lymphocytic leukemia. She took wonderful care of me while I recovered at Presbyterian, kept in touch with me as I went to St. Jude for treatments, helped make arrangements for me to received my chemo treatments at Dr. Fenning's office (she would often come to the office and be there with me), and then kept in touch with me as we moved back to Mississippi where my parents were originally from. Bill, you were the attendant that brought me up to my room from the ER and you told me to beware of "that mean redheaded nurse." :o) You also made me some sort of alien out of a styrofoam cup and 2 bendable straws. It is still in my memories box. :o) Mrs. Gupton was such a wonderful blessing in my life, and I am so thankful the Lord allowed our paths to cross. Know that she was dearly loved, and I know that she is greatly missed. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

My sincere sympathy go to all her family at the loss of that remarkable, wonderful woman. My late husband, Dr. Lawrence Boggs held her in the highest esteem and affection, as did I. I regret that I shall be unable to attend her service Sat., but I leave for Europe tomorrow.

I was saddened to read about Emma Kate's passing. My dad, "Doc" Hendren Query, who died in 1977, was a cousin and our families enjoyed many special family gatherings together. My mother just died on Jan. 23. 2011, so I can only hope that Heaven is a much livelier place since all of these wonderful people are there. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Emma, You will be missed by all but, I will miss our coversations so much. You were my hero. I was so blessed to know you. I know that God needed you with him to take care of them in heaven. When I saw that you were ready on not suffering, you were so strong and ready to go to heaven. So strong right to the end. I love and will miss you until we all meet again. Debbie Herbert

I smile when I remember Mrs. Gupton because of how she helped me in 1985. I was at Presby's pediatric floor taking chemotherapy from Dr. Barry Golembe, and had been cursed with lousy veins for IV treatment. Having to probe with the needle on multiple attempts was the norm, and was enough to frustrate any nurse.
On two separate occasions, the last resort was to summon Mrs. Gupton to my room. Both times, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small metallic cross which she showed me, then held and rubbed. Then she proceeded to start my IV on the first try, as if she could do it in her sleep! She became an instant legend in my 17-year old eyes.
I have been a cancer survivor for 26 years now, and have been able to share the story of Mrs. Gupton's magic each time I donate blood and see that apprehensive look on my phlebotomist's face. She was special in so many ways.

It was my distinct privilege to serve as Emma's pastor for 11 years. She was, and is, a great person. Her magnificent acchievements are well known to so many. Those who knew her as a friend, knew her best and loved her most. I remember Bill so well also. He and I were good friends, talking about golf every chance we got. Heaven is a much better place with Emma and Bill there together.
