Obituary of Dorothy Roerden

Dorothy Lorraine Roerden Mrs. Roerden, 64, peacefully passed away with her family by her side, Monday, June 6, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born December 20, 1946, in Rahway, New Jersey, Mrs. Roerden was the daughter of the late Charles Von Ende and Viola Svensson Von Ende. Mrs. Roerden was a graduate of Central Michigan University with a BS in Chemistry after attending New York University to begin her studies. Dorothy taught Chemistry and Math in Michigan and Texas. In 1973, she received the award for excellence in teaching Chemistry by the Michigan Chemical Council. Retiring as a Technical Manager, from Dow Chemical Company in 1998, Mrs. Roerden is the holder of five U.S. Patents. A resident of Charlotte since 1999, Dorothy Roerden will long be honoured and remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother. During retirement, she pursued her passions for stained glass, needlework, gardening, cooking, genealogy and travel. She is survived by her husband, Ken Roerden, of Charlotte; daughters, Christine Martinez and husband, Martin, of Lake Jackson, TX, and Alysha Yelverton and husband, Guy, of White Plains, MD; grandchildren, Jacob, Henry, and Emilia Yelverton; brothers, Richard Von Ende and wife, Beth, of Bradenton, FL, and James Von Ende and wife, Lauren, of Hampton Bays, NY; sister Vivian Kress of Charlotte; sister-in-law Lucille Rehbein and husband, Lewis, of Trent Woods; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mrs. Roerden will be held 6:00PM Friday, June 10, 2011, in the chapel at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
