Obituary of Minnie Johnson

MINNIE L. JOHNSON Mrs. Minnie L. Johnson, age 88, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at her home on June 17, 2011 after a lingering illness. Minnie was born January 22, 1923 in Northhampton, Mass., the youngest daughter of Joseph M. and Martha Ann Lackowskas. In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Moody Johnson, and her beloved sisters, Mary L. Gustavis and Nellie L. Szarkowski. She is survived by her special friend and caretaker, Fran Fesmire. Minnie retired from the Buick Division of General Motors in 1980 with 25 years of service. She was a faithful member of Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church where she was a member of Circle One for many years. Minnie was a member of Westminster Chapter No. 99, Order of The Eastern Star for 50 years. Minnie?s independent spirit has long been an inspiration to her friends. She will be lovingly remembered for her delightful sense of humor and keen wit, her passion for cooking and good food, and for her beautiful calligraphy notes. She was an avid reader, loved the old classic movies, and was a genius at crossword puzzles. Minnie was a gracious and thoughtful person who often thanked her wonderful caregivers who assisted her during her illness. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church A reception will follow the service. Interment will be private at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church, 3936 Craig Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28211.
