Obituary of Joseph Mann

Joseph Daniel Mann On Tuesday July 5th, 2011 Joseph Daniel Mann died at his home in Charlotte, NC. Joe was born in Atlanta, GA on January 3, 1955. He graduated from Myers Park High School in 1973 and High Point College in 1977. On October 5, 1985 he married the love of his life, Tena Campbell Mann. Together, they raised two wonderful, loving and devoted daughters, Laura Lynn Mann and Helen Stewart Mann. In addition to this immediate family, Joe is survived by his sister, Laurie Sanchez Oliver and his brothers James Stewart Mann and Howard Franklin ?Bruiser ? Mann, and his mother in law, Lucille S. Campbell . Joe was predeceased by his father Benjamin Franklin ?Puny? Mann and his mother, Helen Patricia Stewart Mann. Joe Mann was an active General Contractor and the President of Mann Builders. Joe built this company through the development of friendships in both his professional and personal life. Joe was the kind of man that would deliver what he promised. He served the construction industry well as one of its strongest ambassadors of fair dealing and honest hard work. For those that worked with Joe you know that he loved you all. He was your friend, your mentor and your steadfast advocate. He had your back and never showed you his. For those that were fortunate enough to have Joe Mann work for them you know that the job was done well. And, it was done by a fellow that in all likelihood would end up your friend as well as your builder. Joe did not burn bridges. He built them. Joe had many interests and was passionately committed in the service of others. This was a Christian value that he held dear and above the needs of self. He was Past Chairman of the Board of Hospitality House in Charlotte and served most recently on the Building Committee of Myers Park Presbyterian Church for the new Outreach Center. His commitment to helping others was one of the most meaningful and fulfilling parts of his life. If ever you needed a true friend you could count on Joe Mann to fill that role. He was a member of Carolina Golf Club where he enjoyed the relationships with fellow members in social and golf activities. He was very proud of this Club that provided him with a world of meaningful memories which he enjoyed sharing on a regular basis. Joe was a ?lefty golfer? because the ?clubs were on sale??He was also one of the most fun fellows that ever walked a golf course. His gift of humor could make you laugh at the worst of shots and enable you to enjoy his company with the best of friends. But, Joe Mann was much more than a contractor, community volunteer and memorable friend. Joe was a caring and loving husband to Tena. He counted on her for taking care of ?the details? and for providing him the compassion and love that only she was uniquely qualified to provide. In return, Joe gave to Tena his unqualified and unyielding love. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Stewart and Laura. It is his sense of humor, strength of character, commitment to family, love of life and the happiness it brings that will live on in these great ladies. Joe, may you rest in Peace and in the hands of our Lord and Savior?. The service of celebration for the life of Joe Mann will be held in the sanctuary at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on Friday July 8, 2011 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. Steve Eason officiating. The family will receive friends at their home on Thursday July 7, 2011 from 5-7 pm and in Providence Hall at the Church following the service on Friday July 8, 2011.
