Obituary of Ruth Shearon

Ruth Craig Shearon Mrs. Shearon, 90, of Charlotte, NC passed away at the Carriage Club, Thursday evening August 4, 2011. She was born February 6, 1921, in Dunn, NC to the late George and Zola Craig. Ruth graduated from Peace College in Raleigh, NC. After graduation she had her own radio program on WRAL in Raleigh. This led to a voice scholarship to Julliard School of the Performing Arts in New York City. Ruth married Emil Cooper Shearon and lived in Raleigh before moving to Charlotte. Ruth and Emil were members of Myers Park Baptist Church. She served as president of The Charity League of Charlotte, president of ASHRAE, president of Round Towner?s Garden Club and was a dedicated board member of the Florence Crittenton Services. Ruth is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Shearon Gray and husband, Bob of Charlotte, NC. She was the proud grandmother of three grandsons, Robert Todd Gray of Charlotte, NC, Scott Cooper Gray and wife, Ashley of New York, NY and Brett Walker Gray of Charlotte, NC. She also enjoyed the love of four great-grandchildren, Lilly Katherine Gray of Charlotte, NC, Walker Cooper Gray of Charlotte, NC, Ella Covington Gray of New York, NY and Isabel Quinn Gray of New York, NY. The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Howard and his wonderful kind nurse Mary at Charlotte Medical for always being available. Also the compassionate care shown by the staff in assisted living at the Carriage Club. Ruth loved her buddies of the Four PM cocktail hour and said, ?Tip one for Ruthie.? A graveside service to celebrate Ruth?s life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd, Charlotte, NC 28207 or Florence Crittenton Services, 1300 Blyth Blvd, Charlotte NC 28203.
