Obituary of Woody Griffin

Woodruff H. Griffin Mr. Griffin died on August 6, 2011, following an extended illness. Woody born July 25, 1940, and was the oldest child born to Evelyn Griffin Davis and Curtis Heath Griffin. He was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, class of 1958. Woody graduated from the University of Georgia and attended Law School at UNC Chapel Hill. He was a member of the Virginia Trail Lawyers Association. Woody was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League, an avid pilot and sailor. He loved life and lived it richly and fully. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, Norman B. Davis. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Evelyn B. Davis of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Dorothy G. Griffin, Ph.D. of Conyers, GA, an aunt and uncle and numerous cousins. Also surviving is his long-time friend, Bill Hunter of Fort Mill, SC. A family visitation will be held at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. The family request that memorials be made to Chalmers Memorial ARP Church at 1501 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210.
