Obituary of Mary Thomas

Mary Echerd Thomas Mrs. Thomas, 99 of Charlotte died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at CMC Pineville. She was born June 7, 1912, in Taylorsville, NC, daughter of the late Robert S. and Elise Mae Hunt Echerd. Mary devoted her life to her family by providing a solid foundation of strength, wisdom, and loving care for her family. She provided emotional support in times of need and wisdom for meeting all life?s challenges. She always did so with a loving touch. Her long life was marked by a love of flower gardening. Throughout her life she had a special talent for needlework and quilting. Her many quilts were freely given away, leaving a beautiful legacy. She was a member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church for over 70 years and, at the time of her death, she was the oldest living member. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Carl H. Thomas and her son, Carl H. Thomas, Jr. Survivors include her son, Dr. Robert D. Thomas and wife, Anne; daughters, Elizabeth and Dianne Thomas; daughter-in-law, Julia Thomas; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Mary will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, great-grandson, and grandsons-in-law. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207
