Obituary of Paul McGowen

Paul Mitchell McGowan Mr. McGowan, 89, of Fort Mill, SC, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, as his loving wife was by his side holding his hand. He was born in Woodruff, S.C. on July 26, 1922. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian Aleen Hughes McGowan; daughter, Patricia M. Langford of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Barbara M. Hansley and husband, Jim, of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Danette M. Simpson and husband, Wayne, of Charlotte, NC; son, Timothy M. McGowan and wife, Teresa, of Charlotte, NC; son, Paul C. McGowan of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Pauleen M. Young and husband, Chris, of Fort Mill, SC; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Robert McGowan of Duncan, SC; sister, Brenda Werner of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Betty Butler of Charlotte, NC; and sister in law, Docia Sloan of Woodruff, SC. Paul was predeceased by his son-in-law, Colon Langford; brother, Malcolm McAbee; brother, William McGowan; brother, Mack McGowan; brother, Bill Don McGowan; and parents, Mack and Ida McGowan. Paul served in the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1943. He loved his family very much and was a proud man. An avid gardener, Paul loved to be outdoors and would sometimes nap in the swing on the front porch of the house he built. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service.
