Obituary of Ned Fowler

Ned Milton Fowler Mr. Fowler, 89, of Charlotte died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Sardis Oaks. Ned was born March 26, 1922 in Shelby, NC, son of Barney and Verniah Yarboro Fowler and beloved husband to the late Dorothy Pearcy Fowler whom he married in 1948. Mr. Fowler graduated, with honours, from North Carolina State University class of 1948. He was the president and founder of N.M. Fowler and Associates and served on many local and state professional boards including a term as president of the NC Professional Engineers Association and the Charlotte Professional Engineering Association. Mr. Fowler was instrumental as an advisor in the development of the engineering program at UNC Charlotte. For his dedication to his profession, Mr. Fowler received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Engineering Education. A US Army veteran of WWII, he served with the 91st division in Italy, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and earned the Bronze Star. Ned was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was active as a youth Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Bowles Sunday school class. Mr. Fowler was a loving and devoted husband and father. In addition to his parents Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by daughter, Kimberly. Surviving are his sons, Bruce M. Fowler and wife Sandy, Brett L. Fowler and wife Stewart; and daughter Marlow F. Price and husband Dale; and brother Max J. Fowler. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jonathan Fowler and wife Kathy, Cori, Zachary, Sheppard, Margaret and Jackson Fowler; great granddaughter, Haleigh Fowler and nieces, nephews and cousins. A service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Dilworth United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ben Devoid officiating. Inurnment in the church columbarium will follow the service. The family will receive friends following inurnment at the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sardis Oaks for the care Mr. Fowler received.
