Obituary of Laurel Houser

Laurel Brown Houser Laurel Brown Houser died September 11, 2011. She was born November 10, 1946 in Lakewood, Ohio, the daughter of Nancy Stecher Brown and John A. S. Brown, III. She graduated from Hathaway Brown School and Hollins College (now University). She married James P. Houser, Jr. and raised their two sons with him in Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. Her career included work as a high school biology teacher, a grant manager at UNC Medical School, a money market manager, a small business owner, and since 1990 a partner with her husband in their real estate development company. She volunteered for ten years as member of the Steering Committee and Chief Financial Officer of Church of the Beloved, a start-up Episcopal Church. Pleasures she most enjoyed were her family, gardening, and knitting. She is survived by her husband of 43 years and her sons, Cameron Adams of Austin, Texas and Andrew Posten of Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister, Dale Brown and her husband, Curtis Gollrad, and her brother, Jeffrey Brown and his wife, Paula, and children Erin and Henry. The family is grateful for the years of care and support of Marcia Silva, Marcia Ledesma and the Care Team Ministry of Christ Church. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. The family will greet friends after the service in the Blue Room.
