Obituary of Helen Cadieu

Helen Jarrell Cadieu ?Peggy? Mrs. Cadieu, 93, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully on September 20, 2011. She was born June 4, 1918 in Knox County, Tennessee, daughter of the late William A. and Helen Maroney Jarrell. She was married to Henry Cadieu for 37 years until he passed away in 1977. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Virginia Fincher, Elizabeth Booker and Kitsie Faller. She is survived by five children; Charlotte Heath and her husband, Ron of Raleigh; Joe Cadieu and his wife, Marian of Charlotte; Betsy Ray and her husband Dick of Greenville; Patty Lamm and her husband, Mike of Charlotte; and Dorothy Gardner and her husband, Brett of Hendersonville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. William (Bill) A. Jarrell and his wife, Dot of Charlotte; her brother-in-law, Bruce Cadieu of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was an intelligent and independent woman with an easy smile and quick wit. After finishing high school early, she went on to work at Southern Bell until she was married and began her family. When Peggy?s late husband, Henry, was sent to Philadelphia during WWII she went with him. Her oldest child was born there and she so missed her home city she named her daughter Charlotte. They lived in different places for Henry?s military duties, finally settling in Charlotte for the remainder of her life. She attended St. Patrick?s Cathedral for 60 years. She loved to read, teach and care for her grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Cadieu will be Noon Friday in the Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until Noon on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cadieu?s grandsons will be pallbearers. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or Alzheimer?s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Box 999, Charlotte, NC 28215, Kidney Foundation of NC, 4819 Park Road, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to the charity of the donor?s choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens for taking care of her during her final years as well as Hospice for their support during this difficult time.
