Obituary of James Major

James H. Major Mr. Major, 89, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away suddenly on September 22, 2011 in Banner Elk, NC. He was born in Greenwood, SC on December 10, 1921, son of the late Eugene T. and Eulala Jester Major, but spent most of his life in Charlotte, NC. He attended Berryhill High School and graduated from Business College. Mr. Major served in the military during World War II as a First Lieutenant and was the recipient of numerous medals during his service in the Army. He also served as a Deacon at Camp Green Presbyterian Church and also at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr. Major was an avid golfer and a member of Pine Lake Country Club. He is survived by his wife Betty of Banner Elk, NC; daughters, Anne Padgett and her husband, Dennis of Apopka, FL, and Peggy Major of Banner Elk, NC; grandson, Jon Hager of Tamarac, FL; great-grandson, Haeden Hager of Tamarac, FL; niece, Joan Hooks and her husband, Mike of Charlotte, NC; nephew Ted Conder and his wife, Vicka of Charlotte, NC and niece Traci Burries and her husband, Keith. Of Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery in the Court of Honor. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
