Obituary of Suma Benfield

Suma T. Benfield Mrs. Benfield, 97, formerly of Charlotte, NC died on September 23, 2011 in Lexington, SC. She was born on March 21, 1914 in Taylorsville, NC, daughter of the late William A. and Etta Laura Pennell Teague. In 1936 she married Charles S. Benfield and shortly after they moved to Charlotte, NC where together they lived until his passing in 1989. Mrs. Benfield loved to sew and was a long time active member of Sharon Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband of fifty three years, Mrs. Benfield is preceded in death by a son in law, Charles Jarrett. She is survived by her children, Ann Jarrett of Durham, NC, Barbara Holland and her husband, Darrell of Charlotte, NC, John Benfield and his wife, Christine of Zephyr Hills, FL, and Larry Benfield and his wife, Pat of Columbia, SC; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC with Robbie Page, Senior Pastor of Sharon Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
