Obituary of James Hoskins

James Dickason Hoskins, II ?Jim? Mr. Hoskins, 73, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 7, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Knoxville, TN on September 1, 1938, the son of William Patton Hoskins and Mildred Wright Hoskins. Mr. Hoskins was raised in Knoxville where he graduated from West High School in 1957 and from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Chemical Engineering 1962. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. After college, Mr. Hoskins graduated from the US Navy officer Candidate School in Newport, RI in 1963. He served as an active duty Officer in the US Navy in the Atlantic and Mediterranean (USS Sellers) through 1966, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve. Mr. Hoskins was a member of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served many terms as a deacon and elder on various committees, superintendent of Sunday school, and church liaison for Boy Scout Troop 99, where his three sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He served on numerous committees for Scout Troop 99, including the Eagle Scout Review Board. He was employed with Trane Company for 25 years as a sales engineer designing the heating and air conditioning systems for many of the buildings that grace the Charlotte skyline. After leaving the Trane Co. he worked for Climate Conditioning as a project manager. His last employment, and his true calling, was as an instructor at CPCC in the HV AC department. He loved teaching, and his students loved him. His students voted him the instructor of the year for the HV AC department for each year he taught. He was president of Broadmoor and Trinity Youth Pop Warner Football association and president of the Myers Park High School Booster Club for two years. Jim was a dedicated "Go Vols" Tennessee fan as he spent his childhood days living on the UT campus with his family and grandfather, who at the time was president of the University of Tennessee. Mr. Hoskins is survived by his wife, Susan Kaderly Hoskins, his sons, James Dickason Hoskins, III, John Deming Hoskins and wife Katherine, Joseph DeBard Hoskins and wife Tara. His grandsons James Dickason Hoskins, IV, John Harding Hoskins, Andrew Scott Hoskins, Mark Peters Hoskins, William Deming Hoskins, Henry Robert Hoskins, Joseph Colin Hoskins, his sister, Nancy Luck of Knoxville, and his dear and beloved lifelong friend, Rev. Dr. George "Pete" K. Preston of Knoxville, TN. A service to celebrate Jim?s life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
