Obituary of Rose Olynick

Rose Susan McIlwraith Olynick Rose Susan McIlwraith Olynick died October 14, 2011. She was born on September 7, 1928 in New York City, NY to the late James Alexander McIlwraith and Rose Morgan McIlwraith. Mrs. Olynick was the widow of the late John Milton Olynick, and was also predeceased by her brother James W. McIlwraith. Rose served for many years in Civil Service for the US Army, receiving training as an Intelligence Analyst and was the Executive Assistant for the Commanding General of the Special Forces Command. After her retirement in 1988, she was active in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) serving in various leadership roles at the local and state levels. Rose was instrumental in lobbying for several tax reforms to support retired federal employees. Mrs. Olynick was a long time member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Fayetteville, NC serving in various leadership roles, and was most recently a member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC. She is survived by her sons, John M. Olynick and his wife, Barbara, of New Orleans, LA; Robert W. Olynick and his wife Rachelle, of Charleston, SC; and Peter A. Olynick and his wife, Miriam, of Charlotte; and three grandsons, Shaun M. Olynick and his wife, Megan, of Meridian, MS: Ryan C. Olynick of McMinnville, TN; P. Alexander Olynick of Charlotte, NC and step-granddaughters, Kelly J. Bland of Owensboro, KY and Heather M. March of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia McIlwraith, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at St. Ann?s Catholic Church, 3635 Park Road, Charlotte. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Fort Bragg Main Post Military Cemetery, Fayetteville, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Rose?s memory be made to the donor's local council of the Boy Scouts of America or a charity of the donor?s choice.
