Obituary of Margaret Hege

Margaret 'Peggy' Toomey Hege Mrs. Hege, 82, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011. She was born on November 22, 1928 in Charlotte, NC. For Peggy, family and her Catholic faith were guiding forces in life. She was a long-time devoted parishioner of St. Patrick's Cathedral, where she once served as the president of the Ladies' Guild and was the cafeteria manager of the parish school for many years. Outside of church, she loved animals, always having dogs and cats over the years to keep her company and in her youth enjoyed tending and riding horses. She also looked forward to trips to the beach every year with her large family. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Buck and three children- Ann, Joey, and Frankie -as well as siblings Dolores and Tim. She is survived by four children and their spouses: Carol Dunlap (Dunny), Bucky (Diana), Joan Koernert (Dick), Maureen McElveen (Thad), and daughter-in-law Theresa Hege. Peggy was also Maw Maw to 10 grandchildren: Tracey, Robbie, Christian, Robert, Shannon, Evan, Tessa, Cory, Katie and Brian, and six great-grandchildren: Hannah, Tony, Jane, Olivia, Audrey and Remy. Survivors also include her brother Pete Toomey as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A rosary will be held Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 6:00 PM, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1621 Dilworth Road East, Charlotte, NC, 28203 followed by a visitation at the Family Life Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick's on Monday, October 31, 2011, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment in Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Angels Nursery, PO Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012 or the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203.
