Obituary of Ann Godfrey

Ann S. Godfrey Mrs. Godfrey, 79, of York, SC and formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill. She was born on March 2, 1932 in Spartanburg, SC. In 1974 Mrs. Godfrey received a job at Charlotte Memorial Hospital where she was trained as a Certified Surgical Technician. She retired from Carolinas Medical Center and the job she loved in April 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford A. Godfrey; her mother, Willie Mae Sparnell; and her brothers, James Sparnell and Gene Sparnell. Mrs. Godfrey is survived by her children, Marcia, Carol, Jerry and Brenda; grandchildren, Chris, Kathryn, Jason, Jamie, Ashley, Seth, Carla, Alexsander and Victoria; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Owen and Kori; a sister, Frances Gardner; and sister-in-law, Joan Sparnell. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 4, 2011 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Community Care of Rock Hill, 2275 India Hook Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
