Obituary of Fae Zagar

Fae Sykes Zagar ?Miss Fae? Mrs. Zagar stepped into the loving arms of her heavenly Father On November 9, 2011. A fourth generation Charlottean, she was born on September 22, 1925, daughter of the late John Oscar Sykes and Elva McCoy Sykes. She was a 1943 graduate of Thomasboro High School where she was named "The Thomasboro Girl" her senior year. During WWII she aided the war effort by working at the Charlotte Navy munitions plant and at the Delta Air Base in then rural east Charlotte as a ramp worker. Miss Fae was a gracious southern lady with a good sense of humor and never met a stranger. She was a colorful person and received joy from the simple things in life. A founding member of Assumption Catholic Church, she served with the The Legion of Mary, Alter Society and The Ladies of Charity. Also she volunteered at the church school and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Later she became a docent at the Charlotte Museum of History and volunteered with Hospice. Her talents included cooking, piano, organ, violin and she had a lovely singing voice. She was truely a servant to others as her strong faith guided her to do. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John Slavko Zagar Jr.; son, Mark J. Zagar and his wife, Linda; daughters, Sheila Dawn Zagar and Jon Stephanie Zagar; grandson, Kelly Lee Zagar; granddaughter, Sara Lynn Zagar, all of Charlotte; and a sister, Joe Sykes Martin of Mint Hill. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Zagar was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Sue Sykes House. A mass to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4207 Shamrock Drive. Visitation and fellowship will precede the mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service in Sharon Memorial Park. The family is grateful for the practice of Dr. Pierre Martinbeau and especially Sandra, Emily and Charlene as well as the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region. They would also like to express their appreciation for the care and love shown by the doctors and nursing staff of Presbyterian Hospital and the staff of Asbury Care at every level as they showed great compassion and understanding.
