Obituary of James Price

James Wilson Price Mr. Price, 90, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully Thursday evening, November 17, 2011 with his family at his bedside. He was born June 7, 1921 in Monroe, NC, son of the late Adam and Mary Anne Whitley Price. He graduated from Benton Heights High School and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a crew chief on a C-47 in the 56th Troop Carrier Squadron. Jim was also a part of the Pathfinders group. Mr. Price was a member of the West Charlotte Rotary Club and American Legion Post 221. He retired from Charlotte Pipe & Foundry as a plant superintendent. He was active in the Steele Creek community and served in many capacities at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church where he received the honor of Elder Emeritus. Jim was a caring man who was devoted to his family and many friends. He was known for his quick wit and personal integrity. Gardening was his passion and he loved sharing his famous tomatoes with others. In addition to his parents Mr. Price was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Jean Price and Margie Pendergraph; and three brothers, Everett, Gerald and Herman Price. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Thompson Price; daughter, Jane Rhodes and her husband, Ed of Franklinville, NC; son, Harold Price of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Katie O?Riordan and her husband, Rob of Raleigh, NC, Alex Rhodes and his wife, Susanne of Denver, CO, Tina Snyder of Charlotte and Jennifer Walker of Knoxville, TN; a sister, Vivian Nesbitt and her husband, Archie; sister-in-law, Vivian S. Price and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 AM Monday, November 21, 2011 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28273. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mecklenburg Health Care Center for their thoughtful and loving care.
