Obituary of Catherine Waters

Catherine Parker Waters Mrs. Waters, 91, of Charlotte, died at her home at The Cypress of Charlotte on Sunday, December 18. She was born on July 16, 1920 in Clinton, North Carolina, the daughter of Dr. Oscar Lee Parker and Beulah Averitt Parker. Catherine received her B.A. degree from Flora Macdonald College and her Masters in Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. She worked as an elementary school teacher for a number of years. She and her first husband, Charles McCoy Watson lived in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Catherine was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she served in the Adult Choir and directed the Youth Choir. She was a member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and served on the Board of Trustees of Saint Andrews Presbyterian College. After her husband?s death, Catherine returned to a career in education, this time as Dean of Women at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. Upon her marriage to Wilton Roy Waters, she returned to her hometown of Clinton, NC. While there she enjoyed active membership at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church. After the death of Mr. Waters, she moved to The Cypress of Charlotte. Catherine was predeceased by her sister, Mary ?Polly? Parker Dillon. She is survived by her sister, Lois Parker Furr, nephew James Elisha Furr and his wife, Candace; nephews Lee Parker Furr and Richard Dean Furr, and nephew, John Luther Dillon and his wife, Thanh; step-granddaughter, Leah Scheff Ledesma as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM in the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, NC on Thursday, December 22, 2011 with Dr. Louie Andrews, Minister of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Beulah Averitt Parker Scholarship Fund at St. Andrews University, 1700 Dogwood Mile, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
