Obituary of Annette Dickie

Annette Hicks Dickie Mrs. Dickie, age 90, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012, in the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital. Annette was born on January 2, 1922, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Sterling and Marie Hicks. Prior to her senior high school year the family moved from Birmingham to Charlotte, where Annette graduated from Central High School and attended Queens University. On August 16, 1941, Annette married the love of her life, Charles Edward Dickie, at First Christian Church in Charlotte. The Dickies were devoted to each other for over 64 years until Ed?s death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Watson Hicks. Mrs. Dickie was a charter member of SouthPark Christian Church where she especially enjoyed the Young at Heart Club. She lovingly helped make the church?s first Chrismons (Christian symbols used as Christmas tree ornaments) for the church?s very first Chrismon Tree over 40 years ago. Throughout her life she used her creative talents to produce a treasure-trove of handmade crafts, and she especially enjoyed china painting and floral design. Annette loved seashells, flowers, and butterflies. She is survived by her son, Mel Dickie; her daughter, Mary Ann Terry; her son-in-law, Tom Terry; and her grandson, Wes Terry, all of Charlotte. A service to honor Annette?s life will be held at SouthPark Christian Church on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be sent to SouthPark Christian Church, 6650 Park South Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210.
