Dr Wrenn was an exceptional surgeon who did my Back surgery in January 1976. I had a positive experience versus many of my friends who had bad experiences with similar surgeries. I have to undergo upper back surgery and I thought of Dr Wrenn.

Thank you for the beautiful tributes at today?s service. It is good to know more about the personality of the man I was proud to know as my Dr. Wrenn. I think you?d appreciate knowing this story:I had just graduated from high school when Daddy took a Charlotte pastorate. We went to my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Albert Ferguson, at the Children?s Hospital in Pittsburgh, to ask if he could recommend an orthopedic doctor in Charlotte. ?Rick Wrenn! He?s one of the best; we studied hip replacements together in Germany.? So Dr. Wrenn took great care of me for 15 years. Then one day he announced his pending retirement & said, ?Carol, I want to take care of your hips before I retire.? I went off to do educational work in the Soviet Union first, and came home for bilateral replacements in Sept. 1986. His assistant surgeon was David Mauerhan; before retiring, Dr. Wrenn turned my case over to Dr. Mauerhan with a parting salute to Dr. Mauerhan?s skills, & I?ve happily been with him ever since. I didn?t stand in line to meet everyone after the service because I?m about to have my second knee replaced, but I do want you to know how indebted I am to Dr. Wrenn for his loving care and skill as a surgeon; it was easy to have faith and trust in him. I enjoyed the occasional newspaper article since, referencing all his efforts overseas, and I hope he enjoyed reading about some of my achievements as an educator. Whenever any of my former students or teaching staff remarks about my efforts toward them, I must pay tribute to the doctors who literally made my life?s work possible. I have had, and continue to lead, a full, productive life. I?m sure there?s a chorus in heaven saying with me, Thank you, Dr. Wrenn!
