Obituary of Ceil Hancock

Ceil Hancock Mr. Hancock, 94, of Anderson, SC and formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012. He was born October 14, 1917, in Polkton, NC and was the son of Marianna and William Ceil Hancock. He attended school in Polkton, N. C. and Fruitland Baptist Institute in Hendersonville, NC. Ceil retired from Arnold Palmer Cadillac in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Hancock enlisted in the US Army in 1938 and was in the 2nd Field Artillery, Battery B., Ft. Clayton, Panama until 1940, at which time he went to Honolulu and was in the 74th Ordinance Co., Ft. Shafter. He was a WW II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor. Ceil received three bronze stars for his service at Macon Island, Iwo Jima, and Pearl Harbor. Mr. Hancock loved his family, friends, and his country. He enjoyed Freedom Park, golfing, the beach and mountains. His travels took him to every state in the union. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ludie Hancock, and is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Roper of Anderson, SC; granddaughter, Melanie Henry of Anderson, SC and three great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you with love to all his friends in the Charlotte fellowship for their continuous love and support and also to the staff of Magnolias Assisted Living in Anderson, SC for their excellent care. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at Bennett Grove Cemetery in Polkton, NC at 3:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Twelfth Step Service Club, 709 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC, 28203.
