Obituary of Anne Hoxie

Anne Wilkes Hoxie Mrs. Hoxie, 84, a native of Charlotte, NC, died February 14, 2012 at her home after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer?s. Born in Charlotte July 17, 1927, she graduated from Central High School in 1945 and Queens College in 1949 with a degree in Accounting. Mrs. Hoxie was a member of the Liberty Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, organized by her grandmother, Mrs. James E. Reilley in 1909. She served in the DAR for 67 years including multiple terms as the Chapter Regent. Mrs. Hoxie was a Topaz Level member of the DAR Heritage Club. She was also an active and devoted member for over 66 years of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Although she traveled many years with her husband while he was in the service, Mrs. Hoxie always saw Charlotte as home and settled here again in 1963 after he retired. She was a loving and devoted wife and wonderful mother and was always willing and able to help and support her husband and four children. Mrs. Hoxie was a member of Charlotte?s First Baptist Church for many years. She loved the Lord and was a strong daughter of Christ, a shining example to those around her, who never lost her faith. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Anne was married to Lt. Albert T. Hoxie on February 23, 1951 in Charlotte and they were together for the next 57 years until his death in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Anne Guy and her husband, Jerry of Raleigh, NC; son, Scott L Hoxie of Charlotte, NC and Michael Hoxie and family of Florida. In addition to her husband, Major Albert T. Hoxie, Ret., Mrs Hoxie was preceded in death by a son, James Brooks Hoxie. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Friday, February 17, 2012 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., with the Reverend Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 at the funeral home on Friday.
