Obituary of Mary Ross

Mary Eunice Burgess Ross Mrs. Ross, 91, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. She was born on April 29, 1920 in Chatham County, NC, daughter of the late Luther Avery Burgess and Rosa Johnson Burgess. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Cray Ross; sisters, Irene and Bessie; and her brothers, Russell, Edgar, Roland, James and Lewis. Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia Anne Caruso of Statesville, NC and Rose Anne Glasgow of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Charles, Jennifer, and Kristen; one great-grandchild, Joseph; one sister, Lessie Hyde of Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ross lived most of her life in Charlotte. She loved to fish and won many awards over the years fishing in the Grand Strand Rodeos. She enjoyed scuba diving when she was younger and was a former member of the Queen City Scuba Club. Mrs. Ross was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Women?s Army Corps. She loved wildlife, especially birds. She was an avid gardener, giving away most of what she raised to neighbors and friends. At Mary?s request, services will be private. Her ashes will be scattered off the Grand Strand of South Carolina where she spent so many happy times.
