Obituary of James Yon

James Homer Yon, Jr. Mr. Yon, 79, of Huntersville, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital Charlotte. Born October 13, 1932 in Loris, SC, he was the son of the late James Homer Yon, Sr. and Minnie Brown Yon. After receiving an NROTC scholarship and degree in textile engineering from Auburn University, "Jim" attended Clemson University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. A career as an engineer provided opportunities for him with Sonoco and Jett Engineering followed by a successful business with Yon, Inc. Mr. Yon is preceded in death by his wife, Danya Hardwick Yon, and his brother, William Spencer Yon. He is survived by his sons, James Hardwick Yon and Thomas Webster Yon and wife, Anna Yon; grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Robert Crandell Yon, Sr. and wife Kermene Yon; nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks to his caregiver, Elsa Peraza. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM, Tuesday evening, February 28, 2012 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Patterson Cemetery in Loris, South Carolina.
