Obituary of Roy Christy

Roy Little Christy, 90, of Charlotte, NC died February 29, 2012. He was born in Rutherford County, NC October 14, 1921, son of the late Charlie and Betty Christy. Mr. Christy graduated from Cliffside High School, where he was the star quarterback, Blue Ridge Prep School, and Wofford College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hampton Christy and his sisters, Virginia and Sadie Christy. Surviving are his children, Lynne Solomon, Shirley Martin, and Michael Christy; grandchildren, Geoffrey Solomon, Adrian Solomon, Deirdre Solomon, Emily Martin-Hondros, Anna Martin, and Sean Christy; great grandchildren, Miller and Russell Solomon, Jackson and Peyton Hondros. His grandchildren have fond memories of beach trips, card and board games and playing badminton in the back yard. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Sharron, Pauletta, Peggy, Rosie, Jane, Cathy, Catherine and Gus. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 3, 2012,in the Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Roy was greeted in heaven by his lovely wife, Maxine who thinks he is indeed tall enough.
